New Delhi, Dec 2 (PTI) Essar Group’s GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd on Monday said it will deploy its fleet of LNG trucks to transport goods for Flipkart as part of the homegrown e-commerce company’s plan to decarbonize its delivery business .
In the first phase of the partnership, GreenLine said in a statement that it will deploy 25 LNG-powered trucks, each equipped with 46-foot containers with a capacity of 110 cubic meters (CBM).
The vehicles will transport a range of e-commerce cargo, including B2B (business-to-business) and B2C (business-to-consumer) loads on key regional routes.
“The initial rollout will focus on transporting cargo from western to northern India, with future plans to expand to cover other routes along the north-south and west-south corridors,” the statement said.
This partnership is a key element of GreenLine and Flipkart’s sustainability plans.
“GreenLine’s LNG-powered fleet will complement Flipkart’s existing efforts, which also include the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) trucks, to further reduce the carbon footprint of its logistics operations,” the statement said.
Recently, Flipkart announced that its delivery fleet has reached 10,000 electric vehicles. The integration of LNG and electric vehicles is part of the company’s broader commitment to minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and creating a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
Commenting on the partnership, Anand Mimani, CEO, GreenLine Mobility Solutions said: “E-commerce is transforming lives across India, connecting dreams, needs and opportunities. Hemant Badri, senior vice president and head of supply chain, customer experience and re-commerce, Flipkart Group said: “By integrating LNG-powered vehicles into our logistics operations along with our existing fleet of electric vehicles, we aim to increase supply chain efficiency and contribute to India’s broader environmental goals.”
He added that the partnership highlights Flipksrt’s ongoing efforts to drive green innovation and support long-term sustainability of operations.
GreenLine has been at the forefront of driving sustainable mobility solutions, serving industries such as cement, steel, metals and mining, FMCG, express freight, oil and gas, chemicals and consumer goods.
“In the past two years, GreenLine’s initiatives have reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 30% compared with traditional diesel vehicles, equivalent to a reduction of 7,398 tons of carbon emissions,” the statement said.
