Srinagar, September 21: The Centre on Saturday notified the appointments of chief justices of eight high courts.
According to the order, the following appointments were made:
1. Justice Manmohan, currently the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
2. Rajiv Shakdher, currently a judge of the Delhi High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
3. Delhi High Court Justice Suresh Kumar Kait has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
4. Calcutta High Court Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
5. Bombay High Court Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
6. Justice Tashi Rabstan of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
7. Bombay High Court Justice KR Shriram has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
8. Justice MS Ramachandra Ra, currently the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal released information about this appointment on his official X-handle.
The Supreme Court committee initially made recommendations for these high courts on July 11. Two months later, on September 17, the committee revised its three earlier proposals (involving Justices Kait, Rabstan and GS Sandhawalia), Live Law reported.
The committee also proposed the appointment of Justice GS Sandhawalia of the Punjab and Haryana High Court as the chief justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, replacing Justice Shakhder who retired on October 18.
