Now, cybercriminals will not be able to use fake country codes to target Indians. The government has taken strict measures to limit their weapons. Instructions have been issued to all telecom companies for this purpose. Now, all fake country codes such as +860, +870, +890 and +850 have been blocked so cybercriminals cannot use such codes to reach Indians.
Indians are actually targeted through the creation of fake country codes via Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). This is a technology that allows you to make phone calls over a broadband internet connection. With VoIP, audio and video calls can be made anywhere in the world.
Cybercrime continues to increase in the country
According to the telecommunications department, the use of cybercriminals has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years. In many cases, the country code generated over VoIP is similar to a satellite phone or country number.
Satellite numbers are different from mobile and landline numbers. Anyone looking at these numbers at first glance might be fooled. This is why massive financial fraud is committed against them.
The Inmarsat satellite phone code is +870, followed by an 8 or 9 digit number. Likewise, Iridium satellite phone distribution codes are +881-6 and +881-7, Globalstar’s codes are +881-8 and +881-9, and Small Regional Satellite Phone Network’s code is +882. Cybercriminals also use VoIP technology to create accurate numbers.
How to use country codes
According to the department, cybercriminals abroad are luring people in their own countries by calling them via VoIP. Sometimes through intimidation, sometimes through coercion out of need, sometimes through deception. After such complaints emerged on a large scale, telecom companies have been instructed to block legitimate calls from all such country codes.
Government takes steps to combat cybercrime
Cyber expert Sandeep Budki said intercepting VoIP calls is a major blow to cybercriminals. To some extent, the government has put a stop to this weapon being used to attack people. The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) does not assign this number to any country because it is on a different track. However, their calling extends to every country in the world. If abuse occurs, the only solution is for the governments concerned to stop it.
According to Telecom Special Ramanuja, there are many such applications, including Scamster App, through which these numbers can be prepared and calls made to the general public. Because it’s encrypted, it’s not easy for companies to find out the truth. In fact, the country code for India is +91, after which the digits begin. Similarly, countries around the world have different country codes, and it is difficult for ordinary people to distinguish which country code is correct and which country code is fake, so all numbers with fake country codes are decided to be blocked. .
