Government warns 1.2 billion mobile users not to answer calls from these numbers, even if they are wrong

The government has issued a new warning to the country’s more than 1.2 billion mobile users in light of rising cybercrime. The government has issued this warning for calls from international numbers. The Department of Telecommunications has instructed users not to receive calls from these numbers. Additionally, users are asked to report such calls on the Ministry of Telecom’s Chakshu portal.

Do not answer calls from these numbers

DoT shared information about these international numbers through its official X account. In its post, the Telecommunications Ministry warned users to avoid international scam calls and said they should pause and think twice before answering such calls. Nowadays, users often receive fake international calls from numbers such as +77, +89, +85, +86, +87, +84, etc. Such calls will not be made by the Department of Telecommunications or TRAI. Users should report such calls on the Chakshu portal.

Calls from such international numbers are generated via the Internet, i.e. dialed over the Internet. Hackers call users through these numbers and pretend to be TRAI or DoT officials, asking users to disconnect and trick them by luring them into a trap.

Report to Chakshu immediately

The government launched the Chakshu portal a few months ago through which users can report fake calls made on mobile phones. After a report was filed against the portal, the government blacklisted the numbers. If you still receive calls from these international numbers on your mobile phone, please do not answer them and report them on the Chakshu portal.

India’s telecom ministry has implemented new rules to curb growing online fraud in India. To ensure that no fake or spam calls are received on mobile phones from October 1, telecom companies have been directed to implement a new DLT system. In addition, the message traceability rules will take effect from December 11. Thereafter, messages sent by cybercriminals can be easily traced.
