Government takes big step in crackdown on digital fraud as over 200,000 mobile connections shut down

In the past year or two, digital fraud cases have increased rapidly. The government has taken a big step towards stopping online fraud cases. The government has launched a new initiative to block spam calls from Southeast Asian countries including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.

The US Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has discovered around 480,000 fake mobile connections originating from Southeast Asian countries. To protect mobile users from digital fraud, the government has taken immediate action and banned around 200,000 such connections. At the same time, the investigation of the remaining 280,000 mobile phone numbers is also ongoing.

Government gives instructions

Let us tell you that the Indian government has recently taken many stringent measures to curb online fraud. To this end, the government has also made necessary changes in telecom rules. Besides shutting down mobile connections, the DoT also discovered more than 6,200 mobile phones used for digital fraud. Such phones have been blocked across India.

Action against digital arrest

Let us tell you that as internet and smartphone penetration increases in India, cybercriminals are adopting new ways to trick people. One of them is digital arrest. Digital arrests have increased rapidly in recent years. Criminals have also defrauded crores of rupees through digital arrests. To stem this, the Ministry of Interior’s Cyber ​​Fraud Coordination Center has directed action in case of an increase in digital arrests. Popular social media platform WhatsApp has also been instructed on behalf of I4C to take action against accounts related to digital fraud.
