Government takes action against violence in Manipur, know which cases NIA has started investigating.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has started an investigation into the recent serious cases of violence in Manipur. The action was taken on the instructions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The NIA re-registered the three cases on November 13, 2024 and started investigation. The cases are related to serious crimes such as murder, kidnapping and rape that occurred during the violence in Manipur. The Ministry of Home Affairs has handed over these cases to the National Intelligence Agency and directed serious investigation.
The NIA team visited the accident site on November 21 and 22 to start investigation. The process of collecting documents and evidence from local police has also begun. Investigative agencies are taking concrete steps to bring the accused in these violent cases to justice as soon as possible. This is considered a very important step towards uncovering the conspiracy behind the violence in Manipur and taking strict action against the culprits.
Case 1: Attack on Borbekara police station
The first incident took place in Borbekara on November 11, 2024, when unidentified armed men attacked police stations, houses and shops. During this period, two civilians died as a result of arson and shooting. Subsequently, 6 people, including 3 women and 3 children, were kidnapped and killed. After the incident, security forces launched a search operation and found two bodies inside the burned house. The NIA has re-registered the case and started investigation.
Case 2: CRPF post was attacked
On 11 November, the Central Reserve Police Force post at Jakurdhor Karong was also attacked. A police constable was injured in the attack and was admitted to Silchar for treatment. In a retaliatory operation by the police and Central Reserve Police Force, the bodies of unidentified militants along with arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession. The NIA has also registered the case with various departments and started investigation.
The third case: A Jilibam woman was brutally murdered
On November 7, 2024, 31-year-old female Josangkim was raped and burned to death in Jiribam. She was a mother of three and fell victim to militants in her home. In this case, the NIA has re-registered the FIR and started investigating the case.
