Food department commandos raided a factory in Gorakhpur’s Kudarghat area where thick vermicelli and tomato paste were being prepared in a mess. Assistant Commissioner of Food Dr Sudhir Kumar Singh said banned chemicals were used to make vermicelli and sauces in the factory called Total Food Products, which was extremely harmful to health.

The investigation team recovered 6,000 kilograms of spoiled vermicelli, 200 kilograms of tomato paste containing chemicals, 70 bags of 50 kilograms of flour each, 300 bags of loose powder, 1 barrel of ammonium sulfite, and 3 barrels of 50 kilograms of chemicals. Hazardous substances such as 50 liters and 20 kilograms of sodium benzoate have been recovered. These vermicelli noodles and sauce are used to make fried noodles.

Conditions in the factory are so harsh that the food is made amid cobwebs and heavy mud. Consumption of these chemicals can damage the liver and kidneys and also cause serious harm to other body systems. The factory supplies large quantities of vermicelli and tomato paste containing banned chemicals to surrounding areas of Bihar, including Gorakhpur-Basti district.

The food department has sealed the factory and is looking for the owner. Dr. Sudhir Kumar Singh appealed to people to avoid using such harmful products as they are extremely harmful to health. The police have registered a case and started investigation. Raids are currently being carried out in various places to arrest factory owners.
