Google’s advanced feature for Android users will tell you if you’re being scammed during a call

Android users can now easily identify fake calls. Google has launched an advanced spam call detection feature based on artificial intelligence. The feature will instantly identify fake calls on the user’s phone and sound an alert. Google introduced this feature at Google I/O 2024 held this year. Google has announced the launch of its AI spam detection feature via its blog post.

How does it work?

According to a Google blog post, this AI-based spam call detection feature runs in the background on Android smartphones. It is activated once a call comes from an unknown number on the user’s mobile phone. If during the call, the AI detects that the caller is a fake or scammer, it will alert the user.

After that, the two options “Not a scam” and “End call” began to appear on the screen of the user’s smartphone. Now it’s up to the user to disconnect the call. If the user does not want to disconnect the call, he can whitelist the call. To do this, you can select “Not spam.”

User data is completely safe

Google claims that call audio and transcripts are not saved after the call ends, nor are they sent to the company’s servers. All of this happens directly in the device. The company says the feature is designed with user privacy in mind.

This Google feature is only available to select users in the United States. This feature is available to Android beta users. Once testing is complete, it will be rolled out to all Android users. Starting from Google Pixel 6 to the latest Google Pixel 9, users have started to get the AI spam detection feature in beta.
