October 26, 2024: Google on Friday paid tribute to iconic Indian singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, fondly known as KK, with a special doodle. Although it is not his birthday anniversary (he was born in Delhi on August 23, 1968), the tribute marks the beginning of his Bollywood journey. KK’s first famous Bollywood song was “Chhod Aaye Hum” from the 1996 film matcheswhere he lends his soulful voice along with Vinod Sehgal, Vishal Bhardwaj, Suresh Wadkar and Hariharan. This song was the beginning of KK’s extraordinary career, making him one of the most cherished voices in the Indian music industry.

KK’s singing journey KK’s musical journey began after graduating from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. He briefly worked in marketing before fully embracing his passion for singing. His breakthrough came in 1994 when he submitted a demo tape that enabled him to perform commercial songs, laying the foundation for his illustrious career.

In 1999, KK made his Bollywood debut as a solo singer, singing the emotional song “Tadap Tadap” Hamdir de Chuuk Sanan. In the same year, he released his first solo album, friendit quickly caused a sensation. The album’s title track and “Yaaron” became a timeless anthem of friendship and nostalgia that resonated with generations.
Throughout his career, KK has showcased his versatility, writing for more than 500 Hindi songs and more than 200 regional language songs including Telugu, Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam language) dubbing. Apart from his film work, he has recorded around 3,500 songs in 11 languages, cementing his status as one of India’s most prolific playback singers. Over the years, KK has won numerous accolades, including six nominations for the prestigious Filmfare Awards and two nominations for the Star Screen Awards.
Tragic ending and lasting legacy KK passed away after his last show in Kolkata, tragically ending his life. To commemorate his outstanding contribution to Indian music, a statue was erected in the city where he last performed to commemorate his unforgettable legacy.
Google’s special doodle is a heartfelt reminder of KK’s huge impact on the world of music, and his voice continues to live on in the hearts of fans around the world.
