Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed during its quarterly earnings call that ended September 30 that more than 25% of Google’s new code was generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

However, this is not a threat to software engineers.

Pichai said engineers will further review code generated by AI, which makes them more efficient.

“We are also using AI internally to improve our coding processes, resulting in greater productivity and efficiency. Today, more than a quarter of new code at Google is generated by AI and then reviewed and accepted by engineers. This helps Our engineers do more and move faster,” Pichai said.

Google provides its customers with AI accelerator tools such as NVIDIA graphics processing units and custom tensor processing units, which are specialized hardware accelerators for AI applications.

AI accelerator tools increase efficiency

“…we use and provide customers with a range of AI accelerator options, including multiple classes of NVIDIA GPUs and our own custom TPUs. We are now developing sixth-generation TPUs (called Trillium) and continue to leverage them to improve efficiency and better performance,” Pichai said.

According to AFP, on Tuesday, Google parent company Alphabet reported that its revenue increased 15% year-on-year to $88.3 billion due to the strong performance of its advertising business and the growth of artificial intelligence. The company’s net profit increased 34% to US$26.3 billion. Earnings per share (EPS) increased 37% to $2.12.

“Our commitment to innovation and long-term focus and investment in AI are enabling consumers and partners to benefit from our AI tools,” Google CEO said.

The company is investing heavily in artificial intelligence initiatives and clean energy globally.

“We continue to invest in state-of-the-art infrastructure to support our AI efforts, from the United States to Thailand to Uruguay. We are also making bold clean energy investments, including the world’s first pilot project from multiple small modular reactors Enterprise agreement to purchase nuclear energy, which will provide up to 500 megawatts of new 24/7 carbon-free electricity,” Pichai said.
