There is great news for students dreaming of studying medicine in Uttar Pradesh. The Union Health Ministry has approved starting MBBS studies in five new medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Also, the number of seats in medical colleges in Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur has been increased from 50 to 100.

More than 1100 MBBS seats in UP

A statement said that this has created 600 new MBBS seats, taking the total number of new seats in the state to 1,200 for the academic session 2024-25. The statement said that now there are a total of 11,200 MBBS seats in the state, of which 5,150 are in government medical colleges and 6,050 seats in private medical colleges.

A statement issued by the Yogi government said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had talked to Union Health Minister JP Nadda in this regard, after which the principals of medical colleges filed an appeal in the National Medical Commission (NMC). After this, seven medical colleges got recognition in the first appeal.

MBBS seats increased in these 5 medical colleges
Director General Medical Education Kinjal Singh said, “The department had recently made an appeal to the Union Health Ministry, following which approval has been sought for 100 MBBS seats each in autonomous state medical colleges in Auraiya, Chandauli, Gonda, Lakhimpur Kheri and Kaushambi. Apart from this, we have sought permission to increase MBBS seats from 50 to 100 in Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur. The ministry has approved 100 MBBS seats each in all these medical colleges, increasing the number of MBBS seats by 600.”

According to media reports, regarding new colleges and MBBS seats, Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak said that the government is doing a lot of work in the field of health. District hospitals are being upgraded as medical colleges. New medical colleges have also been built in the state. He said that the districts in which 100 MBBS seats have been given include Gonda, Kaushambi, Chandauli, Kheri, Auraiya. At the same time, the previously established 50 seats in Lalitpur and Kanpur Dehat have now been increased to 100. That is, a total of 600 seats have been increased.

These colleges have got MBBS seats
He further said that so far 12 medical colleges have got 1200 new seats for MBBS studies in the current academic session 2024-25. Along with this, Ajay Sangal Institute of Medical Sciences Shamli and KMC Medical College Maharajganj, established on PPP mode, have got 150-150 seats and Shri Siddhi Vinayak Medical College Sambhal has got 50 seats in this academic session.

State Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that LOP (Letter of Protection) has been issued for 50 MBBS seats for the current academic session in Government Medical College Gorakhpur. 100 MBBS seats have been increased to 250 in GS Medical College Hapur, established in the private sector. 72 new MBBS seats have been allowed to Government Medical College Agra and 50 new MBBS seats to Meerut. Now the total number of MBBS seats in Agra has become 200 and in Meerut, the total number of seats has become 150.
