Manipur is once again caught in the flames of violence. Recently, violence broke out in the state after the bodies of women and children in the Meitei community were found. Since then, tensions have continued across the state. Meanwhile, a report on Manipur has made a big revelation. The report states that girls aged 15 to 20 in Manipur are being trained in the use of weapons.

According to reports, the training for girls in Manipur lasts for 45 days, with 50 to 50 girls in each batch. These training centers have been opened at Yaithibi Laukol Rescue Camp at Thana Khongjam in Kakching district of Manipur. The training took place at a government relief camp for internally displaced persons.

Myanmar’s weapons are spreading violence in Manipur

According to reports, the girls were not directly integrated into the organization after completing their training. NIA investigation found that smuggling of weapons from Myanmar to Manipur is also an important reason for environmental degradation in Manipur. The information comes from a recently filed charge sheet. Weapons are delivered to both groups from Myanmar proper. These are being used to spread violence in Manipur.

Last month, police seized weapons and ammunition during separate raids by security forces in the Kakchin and Toubal districts. Security forces seized grenades, several rifles and pistols.

What is special is that these training camps are conducted in government-run relief camps. Girls participating in the training are aged 15 to 20 years old. They are being trained to participate in violence in the state.

What is the current situation in Manipur?

The first incident of caste conflict in Manipur came to light on May 3, 2023. Since then, a total of 240 people have died in the Kuki-Meitei community and thousands have been displaced. Violence continues in the state, but unrest intensified after the murders of three women and their three children in Jiribam earlier this month. Anger erupted over the Giribam protests, with protesters damaging and burning the homes of many provincial legislators in recent days. There are also allegations that a protester in Jilibam died as a result of police shooting. This also heightened tensions.

In view of the current situation in the state, the NPP has withdrawn its support to the BJP government. The NPP has demanded no support unless N Biren Singh is removed as chief minister.
