In Ghaziabad, a young man raped a minor girl, after which she became pregnant and gave birth to a four-month-old dead child. The police was informed about the incident by the hospital where she was admitted, whereas the victim’s family did not make any complaint to the police. After this the police arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
Ghaziabad Police has arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping a minor girl, officials said on Monday. The girl had become pregnant and had a miscarriage last month.
He said that suo motu cognizance of the matter was taken after the incident came to light through a private hospital in Sahibabad area, where the victim was admitted. She is a distant cousin of the accused.
The accused had come from Bulandshahr to attend the wedding.
According to the news agency, the accused had come here from Aguta village of Bulandshahr four months ago to attend a wedding ceremony and stayed with the victim’s family and had physical relations with her, due to which she became pregnant.
Sahibabad ACP Rajneesh Upadhyay said, “On July 11, the girl gave birth to a four-month-old dead child. Police had received information in this regard from a private hospital in Sahibabad Kotwali area.”
Family members did not give information to the police
He said, “The police contacted the parents of the minor girl but they refused to give any information in this regard or lodge any complaint. The police tried to convince the minor and her family but they did not agree with the police. After this, the police took suo motu cognizance of the case and with the help of electronic surveillance, the accused was booked under section 64 (rape) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and sexual offences. An FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Children Act (POCSO) Act. He was arrested on Sunday evening and sent to jail.”
