Troubled by debts, Saurabh along with his wife Mona committed suicide by jumping into the Ganga in Haridwar. Before their death, both of them took a last selfie, then sent it along with a suicide note to their friend’s WhatsApp. Before jumping into the Ganga, the couple had also called their family members.
In fact, Saharanpur Saurabh has a jewelery shop in Kishanpura. But the business was incurring losses for a long time. Meanwhile, he had incurred a debt of crores. The time for payment had also come for the four-five committees that he had run (depositing money among themselves and then borrowing on installments). But Saurabh had no money left. On the other hand, debtors started coming home for recovery. Finally, fed up with all this, Saurabh committed suicide along with his wife.
Actually, in the committee system, equal amount of money is taken from all the members, tokens are given and bidding is done. The one whose token comes out first gets the deposited money on interest. It has to be returned within the stipulated time period. But Saurabh was not able to return the committee’s money. It is being told that Saurabh had run about 5 committees. There were 200 members in a committee and each member had an installment of ₹ 2000. The tenure of all the committees had ended and people had to pay money. The amount of liability had reached crores.
What was written in the suicide note?
In the suicide note that Saurabh Babbar sent to his friend on WhatsApp before jumping into the Ganga, it is written – “I am so trapped in the swamp of debt that there is no way out left. In the end, I and my wife Mona Babbar Our Kishanpura property is for our children and we are not trusting anyone else. If we commit suicide, we will pay indiscriminate interest to the creditors, but now we are not able to pay goodbye to the world.
