Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made a major announcement regarding Gadchiroli district, saying that the district will be Naxalite-free in the next three years. It will be developed into the country’s next steel city. Responding to a debate on the motion moved by the opposition in Parliament on Saturday, he discussed several infrastructure projects and development plans in the state.
Fadnavis said Gadchiroli, once the center of Naxalite activity, was now on the path to development. The region in the north, bordering Telangana and Chhattisgarh, is no longer Naxal-dominated. He told the Naxalites were either killed or had surrendered. Apart from this, more than 1,500 youths have joined the police force in the area, including 150 youths from Naxalite families.
Gadchiroli’s steel city dream
The chief minister had a lot to say about the ongoing efforts to develop Gadchiroli into a steel city. He said that because the region is rich in mineral resources and has huge iron ore reserves, it has the potential to become the country’s main steel production center. To this end, the state government has accelerated the process of capacity building and strengthening infrastructure.
The Mumbai-Nagpur Samriddhi Expressway is connecting Gadchiroli and Gondia districts, which will help develop these districts into industrial and commercial hubs. The road project will play an important role in connecting these areas with the rest of the country and attracting investments.
Quick Investment in Vidarbha
Fadnavis said development work in the Vidarbha region has gained momentum after the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in 2022 and the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led grand alliance government. In the past two years, 47 projects have been launched in the region, with a total investment of 1.23 billion rupees. These projects include industrial, agricultural and infrastructure-related schemes that contribute significantly to the economic development of the region.
the end of nazism
On the end of Naxalism in Gadchiroli district, the chief minister said the state government has taken concrete steps in collaboration with the police and security forces. He said education, health and employment opportunities were increasing in Naxal-affected areas. We are working towards providing employment opportunities to local youth and mainstreaming them to bring about social change.
Chief Minister Fadnavis also said that the government’s development plans for Gachiroli district are not limited to infrastructure. He said that the area will be developed into a demonstration area for the equal development of industry, agriculture and service industries. Also, it will ensure a better standard of living for the citizens here and establish permanent peace and development after the end of Naxalism.
