A major Maoist conspiracy came to light ahead of the assembly elections in Gachiroli district of Maharashtra on Saturday. A plot to blow up the Parakota Bridge in Gachiroli with an improvised explosive device has been revealed, police said. The Maoist conspiracy blew up the security personnel on the bridge and while the IEDs were being defused, the bridge was also blown up in time.

In an effort to create unrest during the elections, the Maoists planted a number of IEDs on bridges over the Paralakota river connecting Bamrajgarh to Tadgaon. Following this, a BDDS team was dispatched by helicopter from Gadchiroli.
An explosion occurred while dismantling an improvised explosive device
After getting information about the placement of the IED, the BDDS team arrived and destroyed it, police said. A joint team of Gadchiroli police, CRPF and Border Security Force conducted a search of the area and found two improvised explosive devices. As the teams prepared to defuse the bomb, an improvised explosive device exploded. Meanwhile, a search is underway for a third person. The search operation continues.
Fortunately, however, the BDDS team did not suffer any losses due to the IED explosion. At the same time, an improvised explosive device was successfully destroyed by the BDDS team present. No security force personnel were injured. In addition, the search for another improvised explosive device is ongoing.
Police thwarted Maoists’ attempt
The Maoists’ attempt to sabotage the assembly elections failed due to the vigilance of Gadchiroli police. The search operation continues. Police are conducting a search operation in the area to check for any other explosive devices (IEDs). The Assembly elections will be held on November 20 in a single vote for all seats in Maharashtra. The results will be announced on November 23.
