High-ranking IPS officer Nalin Prabhat has been appointed Special Director General (Special DG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police with immediate effect. He will take over the role of chief of the force after the retirement of R.R. Swain on September 30. The Home Ministry issued an order confirming Prabhat’s appointment, stating that he would take charge after Swain’s departure.

The order said that 1992 batch IPS Prabhat of Andhra Pradesh cadre is sent to Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect and after the retirement of Swain on September 30, Prabhat is appointed DGP of Jammu and Kashmir.

Let us tell you that Prabhat has had a very brilliant career and he has received many honors, which include three Police Gallantry Medals and Gallantry Medal. 55-year-old Prabhat has extensive experience in anti-terrorism operations. He had previously led the Greyhounds, a highly elite anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh.

According to PTI, IPS Nalin, while holding the responsibility of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has also worked as Inspector General and Additional Director General of Operations in Kashmir region. Recently as part of the administrative reshuffle the government had reduced his tenure as Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG) and transferred him to the Union Territory cadre (AGMUT) from Andhra Pradesh for an initial period of three years.
