Mamata Banerjee, Rahul Gandhi and Malikajun Khaji
Mamata Banerjee dealt a heavy blow to the Congress by speaking out on the issue of industrialist Gautam Adani. The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress has distanced itself from the Congress meeting on floor management. The Mamata party is said to be angry over an issue that keeps causing uproar.
The TMC recently asked Congress to change its stance. The party said issues of public interest should be raised in Parliament. However, this is not the first time that Mamata’s party has shocked the Congress. There have been many such instances of Mamata leaving the Congress in the past two years.
Rahul holds no rally in 2021
The BJP has built a strong front for Mamata Banerjee in the 2021 Bengal Assembly elections. Many party leaders left Mamata one by one. Congress supported Mamta, who was surrounded on all sides. For Mamta, Rahul Gandhi did not hold rallies for Congress candidates.
In North Dinajpur, Rahul called off a rally then proposed. After the defeat, the Bengal Congress Review Conference was held in Delhi where state President Adil Ranjan Chaudhry and the then Congress chief were angry with the high command.
They both said at the time, we can’t decide whether to fight Mamata or be together. In this election in Bengal, the number of seats in the Congress was reduced to zero.
When has Mamta ever been shocked?
Trinamool remains silent on VP election – In 2022, in addition to the president, a vice president will be elected. The opposition had just been formed at that time. Mamata Banerjee nominated party leader Yashwant Sinha for the presidency. Because of Mamta, the opposition leaders also accepted it. Most opposition parties except Jharkhand Mukti Morcha voted for Yashwant, but when it came time for the vice-presidential election, Mamata took a different stance.
Expressing her dissatisfaction with the Congress, Mamata decided not to vote in the vice-presidential election. In the vice-presidential elections, Jagdeep Dhankhar is contesting against the NDA and Margaret Alva is contesting against the opposition alliance. Dhankar served as the Governor-General of Bengal before becoming Vice-President.
Mamta’s decision was severely criticized in Parliament. Ashok Gehlot even called Dhankhar the great magician for this reason. Grote said raising Mamta was not easy.
Congress is shocked to speak out on Adani issue – Congress has been outspoken on Gautam Adani issue in 2023, but Mamata Banerjee shocked Congress with two decisions on the issue. Mamta directly opposed this at the Indian League meeting in Mumbai. Mamta said it was wrong to drag out an issue for too long.
The party’s federal MP Derek O’Brien criticized parliament as the issue sparked an uproar in parliament. Bryan called the uproar in Congress the arrogance of superiority. He said the Congress was alone in creating ruckus on the issue in the name of the Union of India. We want to have a discussion in Parliament.
At the time, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary did the work of further igniting the controversy. Regarding the Trinamool’s reaction, Chaudhary said Mamata Banerjee must have received instructions to remain silent on the Gautam Adani issue. Didi probably doesn’t want to do anything that harms the interests of the Adani Group.
Things got so serious that as soon as the session ended, Congress was in trouble.
Lok Sabha did not give Congress a single seat – In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Mamata Banerjee’s party was included in the Indian Union, but despite this, the party did not leave a single seat for the Congress in West Bengal. Bengal has a total of 42 seats in the Lok Sabha, second only to Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
The Congress suffered as a result and many prominent leaders of the party lost the elections. The Congress could win only one seat in Bengal. The TMC’s post-election arguments for not aligning with the Congress further humiliated the Congress.
Mamata’s party holds Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary responsible for not allowing the alliance to form.
Silence on 2024 speaker election – The NDA government is formed in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to appoint Om Birla, MP from Kota, Rajasthan, as Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Birla had earlier posted the same. The NDA’s effort was to conduct the entire election unanimously, but the Congress nominated K Suresh as its candidate.
Mamata’s party is angry at the Congress’ decision. The TMC said that Congress did not consult it while electing the Speaker. TMC announced to distance itself from the election.
Congress is in trouble due to this statement by TMC. Thereafter, Rahul Gandhi personally contacted Abhishek Banerjee. The two had a conversation inside parliament, but by then things had progressed further.
Om Birla was elected Speaker of the Lok Sabha by voice vote.
