Former L&T employee says Subrahmanyan’s 90-hour work week is ‘exactly what the company needs’ but calls Saturdays ‘annoying’

A former L&T employee posted on social media in support of chairman SN Subrahmanyan’s comments on a 90-hour work week, saying it was “exactly what the company needs”. The post has currently been viewed more than 333,000 times on X (formerly Twitter).

“I have been working in L&T for 2 years. I have also interacted with Mr. SN Subrahmanyam a few times in 2015. Working on Saturdays was always irritating and tiring for me. However, his view on the 90 hours working week The comments are exactly what the company wants,” user Amey Kulkarni wrote on X.

Kulkarni went on to elaborate on his support for Subramanyan’s ideas.

“Let me give you some background: Imagine L&T is building a metro in your city. If L&T runs it at night, your metro will take half the time to be built. That means the metro will be operational in 5 years vs. 10 years – a huge difference Big.” he explained.

He further reasoned, “Also, L&T is a hierarchical organization like an army. Discipline and work ethics are more important than knowledge/talent/creativity.”

“For an educated middle-class non-software engineer, L&T is one of the best places for a lifetime job,” he added.
