Many officers have contested elections by taking VRS from police service. Now former Maharashtra Director General of Police Sanjay Pandey announced on Friday that he is going to contest the upcoming assembly elections in the state from Versova assembly constituency of Mumbai. He said that he will contest the elections as an independent candidate.

Sanjay Pandey told the news agency that I have been thinking about joining active politics for a long time, but this time it is certain that I will contest the assembly elections. So far I have decided to contest the election as an independent candidate from the area where I have been living for the last many years and I welcome the support of all sections.

‘Will form our own political organization’

Sanjay Pandey, who has been Mumbai Police Commissioner, said that he has not contacted any political party. He said that he will form his own political organization and the process of its registration is going on.

Let us tell you that Sanjay Pandey was arrested by the CBI from September 2022 in the alleged phone tapping case, but later the Delhi High Court granted him bail.

Amit Shah met Ajit Pawar

The main contest in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections in 2024 is between the ruling party and Mahavikas Aghadi. Recently, after the meeting of senior BJP leaders Amit Shah and Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis reached Delhi early in the morning. According to sources, this meeting was held to discuss the seat distribution of the NDA-led Mahayuti alliance for the upcoming assembly elections.

During the meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, Ajit Pawar stressed on finalizing the seat distribution as soon as possible. Like Lok Sabha elections, he said that seat distribution should not be postponed till the last minute. Keeping this in mind, Ajit Pawar had sought time to meet Amit Shah. It is being told that he wants to contest elections on 80-90 seats. At the same time, Mahavikas Aghadi has also started its preparations for the upcoming assembly elections.
