Dhaka: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Bangladesh on Monday for a one-day visit. This is India’s first high-level visit since Prime Minister Hasina’s government stepped down in August. Misri’s trip comes amid rising tensions between New Delhi and Dhaka over attacks against minorities, including Hindus, in Bangladesh since Hasina’s ouster.
There will be issues of attacks on Hindus
The Egyptians are likely to hold comprehensive talks with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Mohammad Jamuddin. He is also scheduled to meet Bangladesh’s acting foreign minister Mohammad Tauhid Hussain. He is believed to be raising India’s concerns about attacks on Hindus in Dhaka.
Sheikh Hasina had to leave the country
In August this year, Hasina was forced to leave the country due to large-scale anti-government protests. Since then, relations between India and Bangladesh have become tense. Days after Hasina took refuge in India, Yunus took over the interim government.
Tensions between India and Bangladesh
Relations between the two countries have become more tense in recent weeks following attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and the arrest of Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das. India has expressed serious concern over violence against Hindus and other minorities and attacks on temples in neighboring countries over the past few weeks.
