The earthquake claimed the lives of more than 10,000 people in Latour
The earthquake was felt in many parts of southern India on Wednesday. Not only this, an earthquake also occurred in Maharashtra. At 7:27 a.m., people felt the shaking of the earthquake. Fortunately, there were no casualties or property damage. People told reporters that Telangana was hit by such a strong earthquake for the first time in 20 years. But who can forget the period 30 years ago that went down in history as the Latur earthquake in Maharashtra caused huge damage.
At 3:56 a.m. on September 30, 1993, people felt the vibrations of the earthquake. More than 10,000 people died here. At the same time, more than 30,000 people were injured. La Tour suffered more damage due to its dense population. The measured strength is 6.4 on the Richter scale. It is said that before this flood occurred, the ground in Latur and its surrounding areas shook more than 125 times in 6 months. This all happened between August 1992 and March 1993.
Ausa taluka in Latur district and Umarga taluka in Osmanabad were the worst affected by the earthquake. People lost everything. The earthquake has plunged Maharashtra into crisis. In this case, the country received help from both domestic and foreign countries. The wounds of the Maharashtra earthquake are still green. Even today, the very mention of this earthquake makes the soul tremble.
Many villages were destroyed
Not only Latur, but also about 201,000 houses in 12 surrounding areas were destroyed in the earthquake. 52 villages were completely destroyed in this earthquake.
It is believed that there once was a large caldera (volcanic crater) where the earthquake’s epicenter was located. Most people were asleep when this earthquake occurred, causing a lot of loss of life and property.
This area of South India has only one tectonic plate. In this case, scientists cannot understand why earthquakes occur. Earthquakes are often said to occur due to the collision or friction of volcanoes or tectonic plates.
The whole world stands with India
The world stands with India after this terrible tragedy. The World Bank, Asian Development Bank and many domestic and foreign donor agencies have donated money for disaster relief operations. In rescue operations, the army and rescue teams rescued thousands of people from the rubble. The government has provided assistance of Rs 46.55 million to the disabled people in this natural disaster. The government, with help from the World Bank and other donors, has launched a major rehabilitation program for the victims.
The government will give animals to people whose animals died in the earthquake. The Red Cross organized three rural hospitals in the earthquake-stricken areas, each with 27 beds. The Red Cross has also established 2 primary health care centers and 11 sub-health centers.
