First surrogate cow born in Andhra Pradesh, gives birth to calf of Gir breed

State’s first surrogate cow born

We are seeing children born through surrogacy. Although it has become more and more common among celebrities, did you know that a cow recently gave birth to a calf through surrogacy? A cross-bred cow gave birth to a calf of Gir breed with the help of a surrogate mother in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh.

According to information provided by veterinary officials, an embryo of a Gir breed cow was implanted into a cross-bred cow at Jagannadhapuram in Ramabhadrapuram mandal in the district on March 9 this year. In this case, the cow gave birth to a healthy calf of Gir breed on December 15. It is understood that the cow has given birth to a calf of Gir breed weighing 18 kg.

After becoming a cow, it can produce up to 40 liters of milk.

Experts believe the calf now born will be able to produce up to 40 liters of milk when it becomes a dairy cow. Veterinary officials want farmers to focus on producing multiple breeds of cows through this surrogacy medium. Officials say a cow can give birth to only eight to 10 calves naturally in her lifetime. However, through surrogacy, a cow can give birth to approximately 50 to 60 calves.

The birth of a calf of the Gir breed

Doctors from the District Animal Development Corporation have successfully given birth to a Gir breed cow through surrogacy. In recent years, considering the insufficient production of many breeds of cows, veterinary authorities have begun to produce many breeds of cows through this surrogate system. However, for the first time in North Andhra Pradesh, a Gir breed cow was born from a crossbred cow through surrogacy. Veterinary officials have advised farmers to come forward to produce Melu breed cows through this surrogacy system.
