Elon Musk has accused the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of illegally spending $59 million in disaster relief funds to house illegal immigrants in luxury New York City hotels. This revelation has sparked controversy and raised questions about the ownership of one hotel in particular, the Roosevelt Hotel, with many on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) claiming that it is owned by Pakistan. Musk who is the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), claims this violates a presidential executive order restricting FEMA funds to disaster relief efforts. He announced that DOGE would demand the funds be recouped.
What Elon Musk said about the FEMA scam
In the X post, Musk wrote: “The @DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants. Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order. That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high-end hotels for illegals! A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds.”
Replying to Musk, one user wrote: “The crazier part of the story Elon? The FEMA money went to Pakistan as they own the Roosevelt Hotel. Senator Schumer arranged for FEMA to divert disaster aid to the Pakistani government so the hotel could be used to house the illegal migrants.”
The user wrote this while resharing an older X post where he wrote: “DOGE: Elon’s @doge team discovered FEMA employees illegally sent $59 million last week (in violation of Trump’s EO) to house illegal aliens in New York. Perhaps more shockingly, the money went to Pakistan thanks to a deal brokered by Sen Schumer. The Roosevelt Hotel is owned by Pakistan and is now leased by NYC to house illegal migrants. Thanks to FEMA, Pakistan has made $100 million so far out of a total $220 million deal negotiated by the city.”
“What a tangled web,” Musk said replying to the post.
