Faridabad: Rs 2.84 billion cash found in car, even police are surprised

Acting under the Election Code of Conduct, Faridabad police have seized cash worth Rs 2 crore (Rs 8.4 million). The amount was seized from three different vehicles on September 19. The police are conducting a check operation as the Election Commission has ordered strict action against illegal smuggling of cash, drugs and liquor in view of the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana.

Faridabad Police Commissioner Yashpal Singh said police teams from Sarai Khwaja police station and Surajkund police station and paramilitary forces checked vehicles at the Delhi-Faridabad border.

During the period, Rs 2 crore 51 lakh (Rs 65,000) was recovered from a vehicle at Sarai toll plaza. Rs 20 lakh in cash was seized from another vehicle in the same block and Rs 13 lakh in cash was seized from a vehicle in the shooting range block on Surajkund Road.

When the police questioned the driver, they could not give a satisfactory answer about the source of the cash. After this, the police seized the cash and informed the Income Tax Department. The Income Tax Department team reached the spot and took away the cash.

Haryana will hold assembly elections on October 5 and the Election Commission has issued strict instructions on smuggling of cash and liquor. The police are conducting a thorough investigation. The Faridabad police and the income tax department are investigating the source of the cash.
