An explosion was suddenly heard and a slight earthquake tremor was felt in Anakalu district of Kerala on Tuesday night. After the incident, panic spread in the surrounding areas. Since then, more than 280 people have been moved to safe locations.
Police said local people panicked after hearing the explosion, according to the agency. They have been temporarily moved to school as a precautionary measure.
Police said that 287 people from 85 households in the village had been moved to a safe place late at night. The first explosion-like sound was heard at 9:15 p.m., followed by two more explosion-like sounds at 10:15 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. These sounds could be heard within a kilometer or two, and fear and panic spread among the villagers.

After receiving the news, police, tax officials and local representatives rushed to the scene to understand the situation. For safety reasons, they moved the families to nearby schools at night. Villagers slowly started returning to their homes on Wednesday morning, a police official said.
So far, the cause of these explosive sounds and seismic tremors is unknown. Administration officials have ordered an investigation and asked people to remain vigilant. Due to this incident, there is an atmosphere of fear among the local people.
