Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is lodged in Tihar Jail. The Supreme Court may pronounce its decision on Friday regarding his bail in the CBI case related to the excise policy. The Delhi CM is the last leader among those big leaders who are still behind bars in the alleged liquor scam. It is being speculated that he may get relief from the Supreme Court. However, the CBI has argued that Kejriwal, as the CM, can influence the witnesses, so he should not be granted bail at present. The hearing in the case was completed last week and the Supreme Court has reserved the decision.
Why is the timing of the decision important?
The real phase of election campaign will start in Haryana from Friday because the nomination process was going on till Thursday i.e. 12th September. In such a situation, Arvind Kejriwal’s release on bail can be perfect timing wise. Apart from this, there is also a buzz of President’s rule in Delhi. The main argument is that due to the Chief Minister being in jail, work in the country’s capital has come to a standstill. The President has sent the demand of Delhi BJP MLAs to impose President’s rule to the Union Home Secretary for consideration. But after Kejriwal comes out, this campaign of BJP may lose steam.
Will immediately take over the command in Haryana
Aam Aadmi Party has decided to fight the Haryana elections on its own and has fielded candidates on all 90 seats. In Haryana, the Aam Aadmi Party’s organization is much weaker than in Delhi and Punjab and in such a situation, the candidates have the highest expectations from Arvind Kejriwal’s campaigning. After the alliance talks with Congress broke down, a rift is visible in the opposition alliance as well.
Experts believe that if Kejriwal was out of jail, there could have been positive results regarding the alliance because his relations with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge have been very cordial. But now that the alliance has not happened, AAP will have to win some seats to increase the importance of its party in the equation within the opposition alliance and for this, there is no better hope than Kejriwal.
Will show his magic in Delhi too
Delhi has been the political karmabhoomi of Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal, who formed the government by winning two elections with huge margins, is an expert in understanding the pulse of the people of Delhi. In such a situation, Kejriwal’s exit four months before the elections will bring the most stir in Delhi politics. The opposition also believes that Kejriwal’s exit doubles the strength of the Aam Aadmi Party at least in Delhi. Therefore, as soon as he comes out, Kejriwal can take rapid decisions as the Chief Minister. Especially the scheme of Rs 1000 per month for women has not been implemented till now and hence the role of the Delhi CM is going to be very important in bringing such schemes on the ground before the elections.
The roles of Sisodia and senior leaders will also be decided
The Aam Aadmi Party’s top leadership was almost completely in jail at one point in the Delhi excise policy case, but the relief that began after Manish Sisodia’s bail may end with Arvind Kejriwal’s release from jail. After achieving the status of a national party in the Gujarat elections, the party was faced with the challenge of expanding its organization, but setbacks after setbacks put a brake on its ambitious plan.
If Kejriwal comes out, many important leaders can be given new responsibilities within the government and the organization so that the party’s vehicle can come back on track. Manish Sisodia is doing padyatra (foot march) all over Delhi after coming out of jail, but he could not be made deputy CM or minister in the absence of the CM. Only after release, Kejriwal will be able to decide in which role Sisodia and other senior leaders will fit better.
If Kejriwal does not get relief from Supreme Court then…
Certainly, this will be a big setback for the Aam Aadmi Party, because after not getting relief from the Supreme Court, the chances of Kejriwal getting released from jail immediately will almost end. Then forget about Haryana, the party will have to take a strategic decision from the existing options regarding the strategy for the Delhi Assembly elections. Currently, Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal has taken charge of the campaign in the Haryana elections. In case of not getting bail, the opposition will also become more aggressive and Kejriwal and his party will be in the dock in the case related to corruption, which will not be a good sign before the important elections.
