Success Story of IAS Manoj Jindal: ‘Turn challenges into opportunities and move ahead, victory will be yours and success will kiss your feet.’ IAS Manuj Jindal, who hails from Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), also faced many challenges. It was not easy to suffer from depression at the age of 18-19 and come out of it and make a name for yourself. Manuj faced many challenges at such a young age, but he faced them bravely and today he is an IAS officer. His entire story of coming out of this phase and becoming an IAS officer motivates those youth who give up very soon.

He was selected in NDA at the age of 18
After completing his early education from Ghaziabad, Manuj Jindal went to study in a school in Dehradun. As soon as he completed his schooling, he was directly selected in NDA. He had secured 18th rank in UPSC NDA. In a conversation with aajtak.in, Manuj Jindal said that this was in 2005. “I was 18 years old. Then I was selected in NDA.” He performed very well in the first term in the training academy, but by the time the second term came, he became a victim of depression.

When depression surrounded him, he was expelled from NDA Academy
Manuj says, ‘My first term was going very well but even then I was not able to settle mentally. In the second term I was very depressed. I had injuries in my hands and legs, I believe the reason for this was that I was not mentally settled, so I was not able to do very well physically either. I always thought in my mind that I am not made for this, I have to do something else in life. Then my depression increased so much that the officials admitted me to the hospital. I was treated there for three to four months. I took medicines. My parents were thinking that I am new, I will settle soon. They also tried to convince me. But I was not able to settle at all. Due to my depression I was not able to make myself understand what to do in future. The academy expelled me.

Left India, went abroad to study
After being expelled from NDA, he decided to study further. His friends advised him to apply in foreign universities apart from India, where he could get good scholarships. This is what happened, Manuj got a chance to study in the University of Virginia. After graduating from the University of Virginia, he also got a job in Barclays. He worked there for three years on a good salary package, but there was sadness and emptiness of staying away from home.

Got inspiration from younger brother, then after 12 years became IAS
When Manuj was working in Virginia, his younger brother was preparing for UPSC exam. He says, ‘During this time when I came to India, my younger brother was preparing for UPSC. I also felt like returning to India and doing some meaningful work here. He convinced me and I prepared and gave my first attempt in the year 2014. I was selected in the pre and mains in the first attempt itself, but did not get a rank in the interview. In the second attempt also, he cleared the pre mains but after the interview he came in the reserve list. But he did not stop preparing and got the 52nd rank all India in the year 2017. Currently he is posted as CEO Zila Parishad of Jalna district located near Aurangabad.

Manuj says that one should never give up in bad times. One should always think that no matter how bad the times are, they will definitely pass. Apart from this, keep the reins in your hands, believe in your hard work and always keep repeating in your mind that whatever is there is in my hands, keep moving forward.
