That’s why every Olympic and Paralympic medal is decorated with a piece of original iron from the Eiffel Tower. In fact, the Eiffel Tower, built between 1887-1889, has been renovated several times. During this time the metal extracted from it was preserved. Now that metal has also been used in the medals prepared for the Paris 2024 Games. The intention of the Olympic Commission behind this is to connect the Eiffel Tower and French history with sports.
This is the design of the medals
The medals have been designed as authentic jewels to celebrate the return of the champions 100 years after the last Summer Games in France. For this the expertise of French jeweler Chaumet has been used. LVMH Group company has prepared these medals. World renowned for its expertise, elegance and embodiment of French craftsmanship, Chaumet brings medallions to the world of fine jewelery with designs based on three inspirations – hexagons, radiance and gem setting. Bringing together the Eiffel Tower and the Games medals required equally symbolic craftsmanship. This is why LVMH House of Chaumet was selected. The medal is decorated with a piece of iron taken from the Eiffel Tower.
Apart from this, special colors have also been used in the ribbon of the medal. The medal ribbon for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 has been designed like the Eiffel Tower lattice. The ribbon of the Olympic medal is dark blue, while the ribbon of the Paralympic medal is dark red.

According to Forbes report, this time a medal weighing 529 grams is to be given in the Olympics. About 95.4 percent of the gold medal is actually made of silver (505 grams). It contains only 6 grams of pure gold and also 18 grams of iron. The price of a gold medal given in Paris Olympics is 950 dollars (about 80 thousand rupees). Medals made of pure gold were last awarded in 1912. If such medals are prepared today, the cost of one medal will be around Rs 35 lakh.
The weight of the silver medal is 525 grams. It contains 507 grams of silver and 18 grams of iron. Its price is around 486 dollars (about 41 thousand rupees). The weight of the bronze medal is 455 grams. It contains 415.15 grams copper, 21.85 grams zinc and 18 grams iron. Its price is 13 dollars (about Rs 1100).
