According to media reports, on Sunday, three days after taking oath, Muhammad Yunus was acquitted in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission. Justice Mohammad Rabiul Alam of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-4 accepted the Anti-Corruption Commission’s application seeking withdrawal of the case under Section 494 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The Daily Star newspaper gave this information quoting the corruption agency.

Even before this he was acquitted in a case

Earlier on August 7, a Dhaka court had also acquitted Yunus and three top executives of Grameen Telecom – Ashraful Hasan, M Shahjahan and Noorjahan Begum in a case of labor law violation. Yunus, an 84-year-old economist, took oath as the chief advisor to the interim government on Thursday. At the same time, Noorjahan Begum, who was also an accused in the corruption case, is also a part of the Yunus government. According to the report, Yunus may soon get relief from many other cases.

There were dozens of cases against Yunus during Hasina government.

Yunus had a long-running dispute with Sheikh Hasina government for unclear reasons. Dozens of cases were registered against Yunus during Hasina’s rule. Let us tell you that in January, a court sentenced Yunus to six months in jail on charges of violation of labor law. Many people believe that in 2007, when the army-backed government was running in the country and Hasina was in jail, Yunus had announced the formation of a political party, which angered Hasina.
