The market share of Apple iPhones in the Indian smartphone market is around 4%. Whereas, Apple’s market share worldwide is 16%. iPhones may or may not be sold in India, but they must be sold worldwide, because India will benefit from this.

What benefit does India get if people from the world buy iPhones?

Apple has started production of iPhones in India since 2017. Apple has three major suppliers – Foxconn, Pegatron and Wistron. Foxconn is the largest among them. Foxconn is a Taiwanese company that manufactures iPhones.

Taiwanese company Foxconn makes most of the iPhones in India. This company makes 67% of the iPhones made in India. The remaining two companies make the rest of the iPhones.

Foxconn and Pegatron’s manufacturing plants are in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Whereas, Wistron’s plant is in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Last year, Indian company TATA bought Wistron for $125 million. Now TATA is in talks with Pegatron. It is being told that both of them are going to start a new plant in Chennai, where iPhones will be manufactured.

Manufacturing Apple’s iPhones in India will not only help in competing with China, but will also boost the manufacturing sector. If India has to compete with China, then the manufacturing sector will have to be expanded and the manufacturing of iPhones is giving a lot of benefits.
