Apple CEO Tim Cook was caught off guard when asked about the basic functionality of Apple’s iPhone iMessage app. Despite being the head of one of the world’s largest tech companies, Cook looked confused when reporter Ben Cohen asked him how he named group chats in iMessage.
Cook’s daily life revolves around using Apple products. Cook starts his day early, rising at 4 a.m. to check email and overnight sales reports on his iPhone.
Cook uses his Apple Watch to track his workouts and listens to classic rock through his AirPods. When working, he switches between a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac, but when traveling, he prefers an iPad Pro.
However, he was unaware of this feature of the iPhone. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook discussed Apple’s operations and company management approach. But when the conversation turned to his tech habits, Cohen asked Cook for the best name for the group chat.
Cook was surprised by the question and admitted that he didn’t name his iMessage group. He even asked the reporter if he would name his group chat, showing his interest in this feature.
“He looked at me like I was asking him to recommend the best Android phone,” Cohen quipped.
“Best name? I don’t say their name. Do you say yours? Interesting. I’ll probably take that,” Cook said.
Cook took the advice seriously and said that during his next meeting with his college roommates, he named their group chat “Roommates.”
Tim Cook: A private man
Tim Cook is known for his privacy. The publication said he enjoyed hiking in national parks and drinking Diet Mountain Dew. A huge fan of both Duke basketball and Auburn football, he even tracked the Broncos’ quarterback competition between two Auburn alumni.
Although Cook is the first openly gay CEO of a major company, he prefers to focus on Apple products and their impact on the lives of its users.
