Signboards prohibiting the entry of non-Hindus and Rohingyas have been put up in many villages of Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Politics has intensified over this. At the same time, the police say that if anyone tries to spoil the atmosphere, action will be taken against him under relevant sections.

This case has come to light at a time when, after the sexual abuse incident in Chamoli last week, the local people opened a front against a particular community and protested demanding action from the administration. The accused was arrested, but its spark reached Rudraprayag and posters were put up in the village of Sonprayag, “If non-Hindu-Rohingyas enter the village, action will be taken.”

Ashok Sanwal, a resident of Sirsi village in Rudraprayag district, says that we come down to work and women live alone in the village, due to which there is a risk of crime. Therefore, we put up posters so that no one can enter the village without verification and identity card. Recently, there was a theft in our temples too, due to which we have taken this step keeping in mind the security.

AIMIM expressed protest against this

In this matter, AIMIM state president Nayyar Kazmi met the DGP of Uttarakhand and demanded action on the signboards banning the entry of non-Hindus and the incidents happening against Muslims. He alleged that after a dispute, Muslims were attacked and their houses were looted, forcing them to migrate. Some anti-social elements also put up posters asking people not to do business and not to enter the village, which are going viral on social media. Nayyar further said that if no concrete action is taken in a week, we will not hesitate to take to the streets.

Criminals should be treated as criminals: Congress

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Ganesh Godiyal said that a criminal should be treated as a criminal, the entire society should not punish him. If someone has committed a crime, action should be taken against him. Earlier, Godiyal said that the law and order situation in the state is bad. The day the President came to Dehradun, a robbery worth crores took place in Dehradun. The day the Vice President was in Rishikesh, a robbery worth crores took place in Haridwar. Cases of women harassment are increasing.

What does the police say?

Uttarakhand Police spokesperson Dinesh Bharane said that some cases of putting up posters had come to light in Rudraprayag, in which the police has tried to coordinate with the villagers and local people by talking to them. If someone tries to spoil the atmosphere, action will be taken against him under relevant sections. Bharane further said that after the orders of the Chief Minister, the verification process is being done with more power. Even after this, if any complaint comes, an investigation will be done.
