After losing the toss and batting first, England team scored 325 runs in the first innings. In response, Sri Lankan team could score only 263 runs. In this sense, England team got a lead of 62 runs in the first innings. After this, England team could score only 156 runs in the second innings and gave Sri Lanka a target of only 219 runs.

In response, the Sri Lankan team won the match by losing only 2 wickets on the fourth day. In the second innings, opener Pathum Nissanka played a strong unbeaten innings of 127 runs for Sri Lanka. While Angelo Mathews scored an unbeaten 32 runs. Apart from him, Dimuth Karunaratne scored 8 and Kusal Mendis scored 39 runs.
