A mock drill was conducted on Tuesday at Jammu Tawi Railway Station, lasting from 11:08 AM to 11:40 AM, to evaluate the readiness of staff and the coordination among various agencies in emergency situations. This exercise was organized by the Railways in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Government Railway Police, as confirmed by Prateek Srivastava, the Divisional Transportation Manager (DTM) at Jammu Tawi.

The drill aimed to test the preparedness of all involved agencies in relief and rescue operations, focusing on effective communication and coordination during a simulated train accident. An accident scenario was staged in the railway yard, prompting the mobilization of relevant departments and agencies to clear the area and evacuate casualties. Simultaneously, a technical team worked on repairing and restoring the railway track.

Rajiv Singh Slaria, the Divisional Regional Manager, emphasized the importance of such drills, stating, “This joint drill was conducted to assess staff alertness and their response in case of an accident… we are fully alert to handle any situation.”

Parveen Singh, Assistant Commandant of NDRF’s 13th battalion, highlighted the significance of these exercises, asserting that they are crucial for preparing for real-life scenarios. He noted that the drill tested the accident response capabilities and the synergy among the involved agencies, ensuring immediate relief for victims. Singh added that mock exercises are a continuous process at various locations to enhance their skills and readiness for any eventuality.
