2024-09-24 17:10:38 : X (formerly Twitter) is said to be working on a new feature that will allow users to view posts even from people they have blocked. Elon Musk, the owner of the Weibo platform, said that currently users cannot see posts, replies, media and followers of blocked people, but this may change soon. Notably, a recent report suggested that X may soon launch a payments service as well, fulfilling Musk’s vision of it being an “everything” app.

Elon Musk confirms X will tone down blocking features

In a post on X, app researcher @nima_owji highlighted that the Weibo platform will remove the existing blocking functionality. If a user’s account is public, even those blocked by it can see their posts. Elon Musk responded to the article by saying: “It’s about time this happened.”

Musk added that the X update’s blocking feature will prevent an account from interacting with the account that blocked them. However, it does not prevent blocked users from viewing posts shared by public profiles.

Musk has been critical of blocking features on social media platforms in recent years. Last year, he claimed the feature was “pointless” and should be scrapped in favor of a “stronger silent form.” In August 2023, the billionaire even threatened to remove this feature from X entirely, except for direct messages (DM).

The feature is expected to be rolled out soon. However, Gadgets 360 staff were unable to see posts after testing the existing blocking feature, suggesting the feature may not have been introduced yet.

X Improve community note function

In addition to removing the old blocking feature, X is also expected to develop a feature that will allow users to add community comments to links. Presumably, it is visible on every post that contains the link. Users can select the “Should appear on all posts containing this link” option to make it visible in every post. Musk confirmed the development of this feature by commenting on “community notes.”
