Please pay attention to the results after voting
Voting has now begun for the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand and all eyes are on the results to be announced on November 23. After the Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the elections in these two states will be very important for both the BJP and the Congress. In Jharkhand, the Indian alliance led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren faces the challenge of retaining power, while in Maharashtra, CM Eknath Shinde, Devendra F. The credibility of the grand alliance formed by Dhnavis and Ajit Pawar has also been questioned. Opposition parties in both states are locked in fierce competition with the ruling parties. In the second phase, by-elections will also be held for 15 parliamentary seats and 1 Lok Sabha seat. Among them, only 9 seats in Uttar Pradesh depend on the fate of 90 candidates.
On Wednesday, November 20, all 288 seats of the Maharashtra Assembly will go to polls simultaneously, while the second phase of voting for 38 seats of the Jharkhand Assembly will begin from 7 am. Earlier, in the first phase of elections held in Jharkhand on November 13, the turnout in 43 seats exceeded 66%. In 2019, the voting rate in Jharkhand was 63.9%.
Direct competition between Mahavikas Aghadi and Mahayuti in Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, there is direct competition between Mahavika Aghadi and the Mahayutthi alliance. Hence, a close contest is going on in Jharkhand between the RSS and RJP. In Maharashtra, the Maha Vikas Aghadi Congress Party is challenging Mahayutthi’s candidate in 102 seats, Shiv Sena Uddhav’s 92 seats and NCP Sarawak 86 seats for De Pawar faction. Mahayuti candidate BJP is contesting in 145 seats, Shiv Sena Shinde faction is contesting in 81 seats and NCP Ajit Pawar faction is contesting in 59 seats.
What will be the outcome of the by-election?
Along with the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections, polling for 15 assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in five states will be held on November 20. Among the five states where by-elections are ongoing, Uttar Pradesh has nine seats, namely Ghaziabad, Khel, Mirapur, Kundalki, Phulpur, Kalhar, Sissamao, and Majhi Wan and Kate Harry. There is a direct competition between the BJP and the Janata Party for these seats. Ahead of polling in these seats, a bitter war of words broke out between CM Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Apart from Uttar Pradesh, polling is also going on in 4 assembly seats in Punjab, 1 assembly seat in Kerala and 1 assembly seat in Uttarakhand.
A by-election will also be held on November 20 for the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra. The seat fell vacant after the death of Congress MP Vasantrao Chavan. Now, his son Ravindra Chavan is in the fray here, where he is contesting against the BJP’s Dr Santuk Humbarde.
The first phase of the by-election battle
Earlier on November 13, voting for 32 parliamentary seats and 1 Lok Sabha seat in 10 states was completed. Among them, Priyanka Gandhi, the Congress candidate from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, is trying her luck for the first time. In Wayanad, Priyanka is contesting against Naya Haridas of the BJP.
The first phase includes 7 seats in Rajasthan, 4 in Bihar, 2 in Madhya Pradesh, 1 in Chhattisgarh, 6 in West Bengal, 5 in Assam, and Karnataka 3 and 2 in Gujarat. The results for all these seats will be announced on November 23.
