Election Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Liquor Sales in Poonch

In a decisive move to prevent the misuse of alcohol in the upcoming Assembly elections, the Election authorities have launched an intensive inspection drive across Poonch district, focusing on surprise inspections and stringent vigilance to combat the illegal distribution of alcohol.

Bharat Ramchandra Andhale, the Election Expenditure Observer for the Poonch Haveli constituency, spearheaded the effort by conducting a series of surprise visits to wine shops and storage facilities in Poonch town to discourage illegal storage and supply of liquor.

This initiative aimed to address the growing concern about alcohol being used as an incentive to sway voters.

Andhale’s surprise inspections targeted various wine shops within the Haveli Assembly constituency to verify stock levels and ensure no excess inventory was being stocked for illicit purposes. His visits sent a strong message that the ECI is taking a zero-tolerance stance on alcohol misuse during elections.

The Election authorities have also stepped up measures to check the illegal sale and storage of liquor across the district. This includes:

  • Conducting surprise inspections of wine shops and storage facilities
  • Implementing stringent vigilance measures to combat the illegal distribution of alcohol
  • Closely monitoring the movement of liquor to prevent its diversion for electoral purposes

The Election Expenditure Observer, Bharat Ramchandra Andhale, has been actively involved in reviewing the enforcement measures taken by the District Election authorities. He has been conducting regular meetings with the concerned officials to ensure the effective implementation of these measures.

The Election authorities are committed to ensuring a free and fair election process in Poonch district. By cracking down on illegal liquor sales, they aim to create a level playing field for all candidates and prevent the misuse of alcohol as a means of influencing voters.
