The 2-hour break for namaz in the Assam Assembly has been abolished. Earlier, employees were given 2 hours to offer namaz on Fridays and there was a 2-hour break, but now the break will not be given. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also thanked the Assembly Speaker for this decision. He also said that through this decision, the Assam Assembly has given priority to productivity and removed another mark of colonial burden.

Do you know that earlier such a break was available in the Parliament as well, but now the break has been removed. So let us know what was the rule regarding Namaz or Jumma break in the houses of Parliament earlier and when was it removed. After this, you will be able to understand what is the rule regarding Namaz break in the Parliament now…

What was the system in the earlier Parliament?

Earlier, Parliament also used to give a break for namaz on Fridays, but this arrangement was only in Rajya Sabha. Lok Sabha did not have a separate timing for lunch break on Fridays, only Rajya Sabha had a different timetable for Fridays. Earlier, Muslim MPs were given half an hour for namaz on Fridays in Rajya Sabha, but later it was abolished.

By the way, every Friday in Rajya Sabha, the lunch break was from 1:00 to 2:30 pm, which was half an hour more than normal days. Usually the break is from 1 pm to 2 pm. But now there is a lunch break from 1 to 2 pm on Fridays as well.

How did it end?

This decision was taken to maintain uniformity in Rajya Sabha with Lok Sabha. Earlier there was different timing in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which was made equal. Last year Jagdeep Dhankhar had told about this new system and he had abolished this break. This whole matter is of 8 December 2023, at that time Zero Hour was going on in Rajya Sabha. MPs were asking answers to their questions, then DMK MP Tiruchi Siva intervened. During that time he asked a question about the time limit of Rajya Sabha’s work on Friday.

On this, Jagdeep Dhankhar said that ‘This is not being done for today. This has already been done by me. After lunch, the Lok Sabha sits at 2 pm. Therefore, as per my instructions, the proceedings in this House also start at 2 pm.’ Jagdeep Dhankhar took oath as Vice President in the year 2022.

Is there a separate place for Namaz in Parliament?

Let us tell you that there was no separate place for Namaaz in the old Parliament House. It is said that the MPs were offering Namaaz at some place in the gallery. After this, the MPs had also demanded that there should be a place for Namaaz in the new Parliament House.
