Respawn Entertainment is developing a third game in the Star Wars Jedi Knight series, publisher Electronic Arts confirmed on Tuesday. During its 2024 Investor Day conference, EA revealed that the developer is hard at work on the “final chapter” of the story of Jedi Knight Cal Kestis. The third Star Wars Jedi Knight game will conclude the trilogy that includes 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and last year’s Star Wars Jedi Survivor.

A third Star Wars Jedi game is in development

At the event, EA Entertainment and Technology President Laura Miele talked about the projects being developed by the company’s studios and confirmed that development of the third Star Wars Jedi Knight has begun. “Respawn is working hard to bring the final chapter of this exciting story to players,” she said. However, the executive did not reveal any details about the release schedule of the game.

Miele also detailed EA’s partnership with Lucasfilm and Star Wars, saying the publisher has delivered “some of the highest quality and best-selling Star Wars games ever, with net bookings exceeding $5 billion (INR 41,861 crore).

She added: “This impressive record includes, of course, the Star Wars Jedi Knight game, where more than 40 million Star Wars fans have connected with Cal Kestis and his journey to become a powerful Jedi Knight.”

In 2013, EA was awarded a 10-year exclusive license to make Star Wars games on consoles and PC, and has since produced the hit Star Wars Battlefront series, the space combat action game Star Wars: Squadrons, and two games in the Star Wars Jedi Knight series. However, EA no longer has the exclusive rights to make Star Wars video games.

Star Wars Jedi Trilogy

Before the release of Star Wars Jedi Survivor, game director Stig Asmussen, who directed the first two games in the trilogy before leaving Respawn to form his own studio, said he had always viewed Karl Kestis’ story as a trilogy.

While this is the first time EA has confirmed the development of a sequel to Jedi Survivor, actor Cameron Monaghan, who voices Star Wars Jedi Knight protagonist Cal Kestis and provides the likeness and motion subtitles, revealed at Comic-Con in September 2023 that a third game in the trilogy is in development. “We’re working on the third one. We’re working on it right now,” Monaghan reportedly said. “It’s a big project and there’s been some discussions so far, but hopefully when everything is settled, we’ll be able to dive back in and make something really cool for you guys.”

The Star Wars Jedi Knight series tells the coming-of-age story of Cal Kestis, a former Jedi apprentice who survived the Great Purge, and as a young Jedi Knight, he embarks on a long journey to rebuild the order with the help of his friends, eventually becoming a powerful Jedi Knight. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the second game in the trilogy and was released last year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The game was finally released on PS4 and Xbox One on Tuesday.
