The terror of wolves in Bahraich, UP is not stopping. Last night, wolves again attacked a 5-year-old girl in Girdharpur area. In this attack, the girl suffered injuries on her neck and head. Fortunately, her life was saved. Earlier, wolves had killed a two and a half year old girl. At the same time, a 65-year-old woman was also attacked. These man-eaters have killed 10 people so far, including 9 children. They have also injured dozens of people.

In view of the increasing attacks by wolves, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has held a high-level meeting. A large team of officials has been sent to the site of incident. The affected areas are being monitored with high-tech drones, cages have been installed at various places and many other measures are being adopted. But the attacks are not decreasing. There is anger among the villagers about this.

Terror of wolves in about 35 villages

At present, four wolves have been caught, but two are still absconding. Although the forest department is saying that the number of wolves is 6, but the villagers are claiming that their number is more than a dozen. However, the search for wolves is still on. There is panic among the people of about 35 villages, especially those of Mahsi tehsil. Because, this area has seen the most attacks by man-eating animals.

Teams of 5 forest divisions are engaged in catching them

About 25 teams from 5 forest divisions Bahraich, Katarniaghat Wildlife, Shravasti, Gonda and Barabanki are engaged to catch these man-eating wolves. Since, most of the wolf attacks have been seen in Mahsi tehsil area. Therefore, out of 25 teams, only 12 teams have been deployed in Mahsi area. Police along with two companies of PAC jawans are engaged for security.

Use of colorful dolls

Amidst all this, the forest department is now using colourful dolls (teddy dolls) to catch the man-eating wolves. These ‘teddy dolls’ are being used as fake bait. The special thing is that these ‘dolls’ have been soaked in children’s urine, so that they smell like children and the wolves are drawn towards them. These ‘teddy dolls’ have been placed near the river banks, the resting places of the wolves and their dens.

Senior officers reached the scene

On the orders of CM Yogi, many senior officers have also reached the spot, including 10 officers including Forest Corporation MD (IFS) Sanjay Kumar, Chief Forest Conservator (IFS) HV Girish, two DFOs and 2 Assistant Forest Conservators. Now the search operation will be conducted under the joint leadership of MD Sanjay Kumar and CCF HV Girish. At the same time, CCF Renu Singh will assist the rescue teams by coordinating with the police-administration.

Fear and resentment among villagers

According to the information received, to prevent loss of life in the ongoing wolf attacks in Mahsi tehsil area of Bahraich district, DM has deployed 32 revenue teams for awareness and has also appointed 11 officers as nodal. Not only this, dozens of teams of the forest department are continuously conducting search operations. Despite this, wolf attacks are not stopping in the area and this is increasing fear and anger among the people. They say that ‘Operation Wolf’ has failed, the wolf is attacking every day, even after so many days the man-eater has not been controlled.

What did the district administration say?

Bahraich DM Monica Rani said that we have caught 4 wolves, 2 are left. Our team is constantly patrolling, we are trying our best to catch them as soon as possible. I request people to sleep inside the house. A two and a half year old girl has been attacked by a wolf. In such a situation, I request the people here to be cautious.

At the same time, Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh told the news agency that wolves are constantly changing their location. Usually they hunt at night and return to their den by morning. Our strategy is to mislead them and take them to the traps or cages placed near their den, away from human habitations. We are keeping an eye on them through thermal drones and then trying to take them to deserted areas near the trap by bursting crackers and making noise.

He further said that since these animals are mainly targeting children, dolls with colorful clothes are being kept soaked in children’s urine. The smell of children’s urine will give a false impression of human presence near the trap.
