Double whammy for Google, after India, will now produce in the country, accused of breaking the law

Following India, Google has now been accused of violating the country’s antitrust rules. Indian agency CCI has ordered a detailed probe into the technology company. Winzo Games accused the company of unfair business practices. Meanwhile, Canada’s anti-trust watchdog accused Google of anti-competitive behavior in online advertising. The Canadian agency has filed a lawsuit against the technology company with the Competition Tribunal.

Violation of antitrust rules

The Canadian Competition Bureau has filed a lawsuit against Google parent company Alphabet, accusing it of unfair business practices. The court recommended a hefty fine for Google for violating the rules. Google said the allegation was false because buyers and sellers had multiple options in the ad. We will state our position on this in court.

“Our ad tech tools help sites and apps fund their content,” said Dan Taylor, Google’s vice president of global advertising. Canada’s Competition Bureau launched an investigation in 2020, saying Google violated fair competition rules. The agency said in its investigation that Google has huge stakes in online advertising and ad technology, which enhances its market power.

CCI starts investigation

Google has been sued for violating antitrust rules. Winzo Games has filed a complaint against Google with the CCI of India. Google has been accused of abusing the Play Store and engaging in unfair business practices. In view of the prima facie evidence, the CCI has directed a comprehensive probe into the tech company. The company was accused of breaching sections 4(2)(a)(i), 4(2)(b) and 4(2)(c). Winzo Games said Google did not allow the app to be listed on its Play Store. Additionally, it issues malware warnings when downloading apps from websites.
