Bollywood actress Dia Mirza made her Bollywood debut in 2001 with the film ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’ and became a public favorite from her first film itself. Even today, Dia has a strong fan following. But now Dia has told that the time when she entered the industry was very difficult for actresses.

Diya told that 20 years ago, in the early 2000s, the industry had a certain expectation regarding the weight of actresses. And because of this, Diya used to be very nervous. Diya also told that big stars were very demanding about the actresses cast opposite them.

Diya faced problems at the beginning of her career
In the beginning of her career, Diya did not get much success. In an interview with Times of India, when Diya was asked if she was hurt by this, she said, ‘I was hurt. I was nervous. I was filled with fear because all we got to know from the media and the industry was that if you are a woman, you have a shelf life. Even if you are in your 20s, you will not be cast with stars.’

Diya further said that the stars of the industry had many demands for the actresses cast with them. She said, ‘Male superstars wanted actresses of a certain age. You had to look a certain way. You should have a certain weight. Every actress who came into the industry in the early 2000s was told that you should have a certain weight, you have to look like this. You should be single.’

Diya’s career
Dia Mirza made her acting debut with Gautam Menon’s film ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’. She was accompanied by Saif Ali Khan and R Madhavan in this film. After this, she appeared in films like Dum, Tehzeeb, Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Parineeta and Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

Diya recently appeared in Anubhav Sinha’s Netflix web series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’. Diya has played the role of a journalist in the show. Along with her, actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Vijay Verma, Kumud Mishra and Manoj Pahwa are part of this show.

‘IC 814’ is based on a real incident of December 1999, when a flight from Kathmandu to Delhi was hijacked by five terrorists. The flight passed through several places and was finally diverted to Kandahar, Afghanistan. India had to release three terrorists in exchange for the lives of its passengers and flight crew. ‘IC 814’ is streaming on Netflix.
