There is a magnificent Ganesha temple in Mumbai, Maharashtra, known as the Lord of Lalbagh. Lakhs of people queue up to catch a glimpse of the King of Lalbagh. The King of Lalbagh in Mumbai remains the most talked about figure during Ganesh Mahotsav. Meanwhile, a complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Police Commissioner regarding discrimination between VIPs and non-VIPs during the Lalbagh Pandhar Darshan.

In fact, the complaint was filed by lawyers Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra of the Bombay High Court. The complaint stated that at the pandal of Ganpati Bappa Maharaj in Lal Bagh, the management discriminated against children, women, elderly couples, disabled people and pregnant tourists during Bappa’s darshan.

The complaint stated that under VIP and non-VIP darshan, ordinary tourists were beaten, abused and subjected to inhuman torture by the caretakers and others in the pandal. It can be seen that this system is like a philosophy that is deadly by negligence.

The complaint stated that all other government officials including senior officials of the Mumbai Police and the pandal managers including the founder of the pandal were present in Bappa’s pandal during the entire incident. The complaint further stated that similar arrangements were being made every year and members of the public were facing discrimination and suffering along with other family members who were given darshan.

The complaint was told that Article 14 (equal rights) and Article 21 (arrangements for providing security and other facilities to the public) should be followed. The religious sentiments of the tourists should not be hurt by discrimination during darshan.
