Prime Minister Modi and disabled children
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a blog on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. He shares his experiences and thoughts in an article titled “A Miraculous Solution to Service and Self-Esteem for People with Disabilities.” He wrote that this moment is like a holy day for our country. Respect for people with disabilities is embedded in our country’s ideology. The respect for people with disabilities can be seen in our scriptures and folk texts.
In this article, he also mentioned a verse from Ramayana. He once wrote—— Enthusiasm is strong, noble people, there is no greater power than enthusiasm. There is no strange courage in this world This means that for a passionate person, nothing in the world is impossible. Today in India, our disabled people are working with the same passion to become a force for respect and self-respect in the nation.
Prime Minister Modi wrote in his blog that this day is also special this year because the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution has been completed this year. The Constitution of India inspires us to work for equality and freedom.
“Since I entered public life, I have worked many times to make the lives of people with disabilities easier,” the Prime Minister wrote. When I became Prime Minister, I made this service a commitment to the country. After the formation of the government in 2014, we first decided to popularize the word Divyang instead of the word Viklang. With this word, the dignity of disabled people in society has also increased.
At the same time, Prime Minister Modi also targeted previous governments. He writes that due to policies of previous administrations, people with disabilities have been left behind in the competition for government jobs and higher education. But today things have changed. Spending on disability benefits has also tripled in the past decade.
I say with confidence that when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of independence in 2047, our friends with disabilities will be seen as a source of inspiration to the world, he wrote. Today we must make a commitment to achieve this goal.
