Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, security officials are intensifying their preparations to ensure a peaceful voting process. Recently, Nalin Prabhat, the newly appointed Director General (Operation and Security) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anand Jain, held a crucial meeting with Major General Mukesh Bhanwala, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Tiger Division. This high-level discussion focused on operational and security measures tailored for the elections.

The primary aim of this meeting was to enhance security protocols and operational efficiency in light of potential challenges during the electoral process. According to PRO Defence Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, the dialogue provided a platform for an in-depth discussion on various operational aspects pertinent to the region. Both DG Prabhat and ADGP Jain emphasized the importance of comprehensive preparedness and effective coordination among security forces to address any emerging threats.

In preparation for the first phase of the assembly elections, scheduled for September 18, additional security measures have been implemented across Jammu and Kashmir. This includes the installation of checkpoints, intensified surveillance, and the deployment of police cameras at all polling stations in sensitive areas such as Doda. The District Election Officer of Doda, Harvinder Singh, highlighted the extensive surveillance setup, which includes 534 polling stations monitored live from the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Moreover, the Border Security Force (BSF) has assured that counter-infiltration measures are in place to prevent any terrorist activities that could disrupt the elections. BSF Inspector General D.K. Boora stated that the borders are secure and that the force is prepared to handle any situation that may arise during this critical period.

The meeting underscored the robust collaboration between various security agencies, including the police and the BSF. Both DG Prabhat and ADGP Jain praised the unwavering commitment of the Tiger Division and other security forces, which is crucial for maintaining order and ensuring the safety of the region during the elections. This collaboration is particularly vital as the elections mark the first significant electoral event in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370.

The proactive measures being taken by security officials reflect a strong commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir. With the first phase of the assembly elections approaching, authorities are urging the public to cooperate with security personnel to facilitate a smooth voting experience.
