Devender Singh Rana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Nagrota assembly constituency, officially filed his nomination on September 12, 2024. The event was marked by a vibrant roadshow attended by thousands of enthusiastic supporters and party workers, who rallied behind Rana, chanting pro-nationalist slogans.

Notable figures present at the nomination included Ram Madhav, the BJP’s in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, and Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma. Rana expressed his gratitude to the party leadership for the opportunity to serve the people once again, conveying confidence that the BJP would secure a full majority in the upcoming elections.

In his address, Rana emphasized the significance of the election for Jammu, framing it as a pivotal moment that could determine the region’s political authority. He called upon the people of Jammu to unite and ensure that political power flows from their region, thereby challenging the perceived dominance of Kashmir.

Rana also raised concerns regarding what he termed the “nefarious designs” of the Congress-National Conference alliance, specifically warning against attempts to alter the nomenclature of significant cultural sites like Shankaracharya Hill and Hari Parbat. He asserted that the BJP would staunchly defend the reservations granted to various communities, including Paharis, OBCs, Dalits, and Gujjars, urging party workers to mobilize public awareness about the achievements of the Modi government over the past decade.

Describing the elections as historic, Rana highlighted the BJP’s commitment to fostering peace, development, and empowerment for youth and marginalized communities in Jammu. He expressed deep appreciation for the support he has received from the Nagrota constituency, pledging to prioritize their welfare and job creation for the youth.

Ram Madhav, speaking at the event, reiterated the BJP’s role in liberating Jammu and Kashmir from the constraints of Article 370, which he argued had hindered the region’s growth for decades. He expressed optimism about the BJP’s prospects in the elections, asserting that the upcoming government would be inclusive and focused on development.

The atmosphere during the nomination event was charged with enthusiasm, reflecting the BJP’s strategic focus on consolidating support in Jammu as the elections approach.
