Democracy cannot be left to technology…BJP comes face to face with Congress to discuss EVM

Manish Tiwari and Shehzad Poonawala

The Election Commission responded to Congress’ complaints against EVMs during the recent assembly polls in Haryana and dismissed the allegations. The Electoral Commission issued a 1,642-page reply to Congress stating that the party’s accusations were baseless and that the party should avoid such irresponsible accusations. Now Congress and BJP leaders have issued statements in this regard.

Congress leader Manish Tewari said how could the battery life of a machine reach 99 per cent when it remains off for the entire day and then turned back on for counting after a few days? This completely defies any scientific law that a machine (EVM) can be used all day long from 8am to 6pm or 9am to 5pm and once its battery life reaches 99%. The machine is shut down. It was kept in a sturdy room and a few days later it was taken out to count the votes.

Requirements for elections by ballot

He further said: “I don’t understand why ECI is so supportive of EVM. In fact, under Article 324, ICI has the responsibility to conduct free and fair elections. What difference does it make to them whether elections are through EVM or ballot papers? No one in the world Exception, even in countries where EVM was invented before India, everyone went back to the ballot box because democracy is too precious to be left to technology. The Election Commission should not only seriously consider this, but instead take the initiative to bring the country back to the ballot box. . “

BJP attacks Congress

You see, the Election Commission of India is another constitutional body and it has condemned the irresponsible and baseless accusations made by the Congress party, said BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla. Whenever the Congress wins an election, be it in Karnataka or Telangana, it thinks the EVM and the Election Commission are okay, but when it loses the election, it starts abusing the constitutional machinery. Likewise, if the judiciary wins cases, then the judiciary and democracy are good. Otherwise democracy and justice are in danger. In Haryana, he made these allegations after the elections. In Maharashtra and Jharkhand, he called the EVM wrong even before the elections.
