An 11-year-old girl student of a government school was allegedly sexually assaulted by a self-defence trainer in her class in Delhi’s Sultanpuri area on Friday, triggering protests. The police have arrested the accused, Satish (45), who gives free self-defence training through an NGO. He is not a regular teacher of the school.

A statement from the Delhi government said that Education Minister Atishi has ordered an immediate, comprehensive and detailed investigation into the matter. The statement said, ‘Based on whatever conclusions emerge after the investigation, the most stringent and decisive action will be taken against the guilty. The government is firmly committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.’

The girl called her father and gave him the information

A senior police officer said that family members and their neighbours gathered outside the police station and demanded action against the accused. According to the victim’s father, his daughter called him in the afternoon and said that her sports teacher touched her inappropriately during class and threatened her not to speak about it to anyone. He further said that we contacted the school principal and also informed the local police about the matter.

Police said that we received information about sexual assault by a school teacher at 12.12 pm on Friday. A case has been registered at Sultanpuri police station under Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (Pocso Act). Police said that the victim girl is being counseled and medically examined. Police said that further investigation is underway.
