Delhi seizes 2,300 kilograms of illegal firecrackers in two days, police arrests 5 accused

Delhi Police on Sunday seized more than 1,300 kilograms of illegal firecrackers from various areas of the national capital and arrested three persons in connection with the case. They were identified as Manoj Kumar, Sanjay Attri and Vipin Kumar. Officials said Manoj Kumar was involved in selling firecrackers, which were banned due to coronavirus and Attri supplied firecrackers to him.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satish Kumar said: “A total of 1,323 kg of banned firecrackers were seized from two warehouses. Both the warehouse owners and the driver who supplied the firecrackers were caught. He said the police received the call on Friday Following a tip-off, illegal firecrackers were seized in a raid at Baplela village outside Delhi.

According to police, Manoj Kumar and driver Sanjay Attri were first arrested. During interrogation, the duo revealed that they used to supply firecrackers in Prem Nagar and Kirari areas. “Both the men revealed another warehouse where Vipin was arrested,” the DCP said. “We have started further investigation into the matter.”

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police also conducted a raid at a godown in Baplela village on Friday and seized a large number of banned firecrackers. Two people were detained as a result. Police seized multiple boxes filled with firecrackers, weighing more than 850 kilograms. People and suppliers who rented warehouses to store and sell illegal firecrackers were interrogated.

“The two were found working without the required license,” police said in a statement. “The vendor told us that he used to bring firecrackers from Rohtak. A case has been registered under Sections 288 (negligent conduct relating to explosives) and Section 9B of the Explosives Act. Last month, a 21-year-old man was arrested for smuggling firecrackers. Following this, the police seized 65 kg of firecrackers from Nihal Vihar in west Delhi. In November 2023, three people were arrested after 500 kilograms of firecrackers were seized in the city.
